Post Car Heating Up!!! HELP!!!!

Recently when i have been driving around town or in a parking lot my car temp will rise all the way up to the second white line right before the red. When i drive i am always fearing that the temp will crawl into the red and hurt my engine. What do you think the cause of the heat rising that high could be. DO you think its present state is damaging my car in any way. Before the temp would always stay right at the first white line. Thanks ahead of time for all you help.

your cooling fans may have a problem. Same thing happened to me during city driving when the thermoswitch on my radiator went bad. As soon as I got on the highway it all cooled down. They are very inexpensive to replace. Hope this helps.

If you turn on the A/C, it should start the fan and cool the system down even if the thermoswitch is busted.

It is also possible that the seal in your coolant reservoir cap is shot. In this case the system will not hold pressure, and the boiling point of the coolant is lowered. A new cap will fix this of course.
