When accelerating, my car has a bad vibration only between 3200 and 3500 rpm's. I feel it in the rear of the car and in the shifter. It does it in any gear. But only when driving. And I know its not the tire's. They were just balanced and it did it before. Any takers on what the problem could be?

Probably torque tube bearings have gone south.

It's coming from the rear.

i kinda have the same thing going on. but it really doesn't bother me. i figure the car is 19 yrs old, it's bound to have some resonance or squeaks. my shifter vibrates very little. my old Mercedes (84 190e manual transmission) had the same little resonance. maybe it's old trans mounts, or maybe the tranny is going. when it breaks i'll fix it.

Lower balance shaft is out by 180 degrees. You will feel it throught the torque tube and the shifter.

3200 and 3500 rpm's, I feel it in the rear of the car and in the shifter. thats the only places.

Have you had the belts off for any reason, water pump, retension, front oil seals? If so that's where I'd look. If they haven't been touched and this is a new problem, I'd suspect the motor mounts or check the exhaust system mounts for integrity.

Nothing has been done to the motor that would cause that. and the exhaust has just been redone. It did it before that. I kinda think that its in the drive train. I think its either the tranny or the torque tube.

Does it make a difference what gear you are in or does it bo it in all gears? If the shimmy is dependent on specific gears then I would think the problem is in the transmission with those gears or sets of gears like 1st & third as I belive they are on the same shaft.

If the problem is not specific to certain gears then maybe in the differential (ring & pinion) or in the torque tube, usually when torque tube bearing go the just get noisy.

Sorry, long day chasing my cat/fuel/drivability issue. (See "Help I think it's the DME...")

If you are noticing it in same place through the rpm's independent of gear selection, I would start with the easy(er) and look at the pilot bearing, and pressure plate, sometimes a broken spring (sport clutch) or worn pilot bearing can cause a vibration. I would rule out everything else befor suspecting the tranny.
