Post Help me solve my 137K mile S2 oil-grade dilemma

My S2 cabrio has 137K on the odo and I've been running 10W-40 Castrol GTX mineral oil in it since I bought it with 118K in 1999.

I brought the car to Europe from the States and Castrol has some nice synthetic oils here, but I haven't had much luck finding the same oil I was using. Most mineral oils are 15W and up, and the 10Ws are semi-synthetic or full-synthetic.

Would you switch a 137K mile S2 to full-synthetic? I'm hesitant to do this because I've always heard this causes high-mileage engines to spring leaks. That's why I've stuck with mineral until now. However, this car burns ZERO oil between changes every 3K miles.

I'm leaning toward a semi-synthetic in 10W-40 grade. What do you fellows think?

TIA

Luis,
I have an '89 944S2 with 131,000 on the clock. I'm using Mobil 1 15W-50 and experience no oil leaking! Of course I had all seals, gaskets...etc replaced last year, but still, no leaks.

During normal driving, I don't burn through any oil. Track driving is a differnt story: I'll go through 1-2 quart a day! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

I use the synth since there is less oil breakdown at higher rpm driving.

Just my $0.42.
