Post Brake upgrade question

What are the brake rotor / caliper upgrade options one can do on a late 944 NA?

944 Turbo brakes, S4 brakes (I think they are very similar), and of course Big Reds (911 Turbo).

What parts are necessary? I am assuming the don't just bolt right on. Anyone sell kits for it? I've never seen anyone selling the Big Red kits for a 944 NA, only the Turbos. Will the S4 calipers fit inside a 16" wheel?

Found it! they make them for the 87-90 non turbo and the kit is 1795.95. Bit pricey but works the same as the BIG REDS!!! DUM DUM DUM!!! Hope that helps. It was in an older catalogue I found.

oh wow... that's a lot more expensive than I was hoping. I would really like to do the S4 conversion. Anyone know anything about that?

would 951 calipers fit an 86na? I really don't think I need the extra braking (if any) but I think na calipers look too generic. I want ones that say "PORSCHE" dammit

SInce you have the late model spindles, adapting the S4 calipers and rotors is not a big deal. A guy on the boards here was selling a set for $500 including the rotors and pads a couple of weeks back (that seems to be about the going price for decent used components, btw), all you would have to buy is the mounting block adapter and you'd be set. Its a good upgrade if you have the late spindles, and you can run 16" wheels to boot, altho you need 8" Phone Dials up front to clear the calipers, if thats what you are running.

A special thanks to Oliver Pinkpank and Hugh Ma for the education on this upgrade.

Oh, by th eway, if you want the Baby Brembos from a 951, there was an article by Gerry Burger a couple of month sback that addressed that topic and will answer any questions you may have about it. Thats a decent upgrade over the NA calipers.

Also, if you do it, be sure to get the 5/33 proportioning valve at the same time. It balances the system much better and the rear brakes actually get to do some work for a change!

Where can you get the mounting block adapters? Are you saying the wheels on the front have to be 8" wide? I'm not following the 8" comment.

I had a set of 951 front brakes lined up, they wouldn't fit the 88 N/A spindles. I could pobably get them still, so I would love to find the adapters.

i have a 88 na,
ive put on turbo spindles, 993 calipers, 928 drilled rotors, the mounting block, i run porterfield r4s pads all around, blue fluid, 944 t calipers in the rear, all stainless lines....
and the late model doesnt have a bias valve and i dont have any lock up problems. with 130 extra pounds in the front (v8).
