Default LS1 conversion -- which platform to start with?

I currently have an 86 951, the interior is pretty beat and the engine is OK. After reading up on the suspension, brakes, and spindle differences, it made me wonder if I should sell the car as is and pick up an 87+ turbo (Preferably with a blown/weak/damaged engine) as a project car.

Is the 86 951 a great car to start with, or are the 87+ models much more desirable?

I started with a 968, but quickly realized the 6 speed was the wrong box. The Turbo S would be the best choice.

I'd consider any 951 with limited slip diff to be the right platform. You can't be too picky.

I'd think a C5 or C6 Corvette would be a good fit for that engine...

That engine would be a good fit for any car. It is a marvelous example of technology. Simple, compact and can make huge power.

Here's an awesome use of an LS1. Not a crazy price either.

Are you the guy from Australia? That would explain the car's global orientation.
