Post 9*17 in the front too?

this is my current set-up:

what if i put 9*17 in the front. this would be a 9*17 all around! i just took the 9's off the back and put them in the front. no rubbing. is there anything i need to avoid with this set up? has anyone done this. I think rotation of tires would be worth it and since i DON'T track the car it wouldn't be an issue of under/over steer for me....

I would not do it, for fears the added rubber would cause undue wear and stress in the steering/suspension in front. Perhaps a baseless fear, but... I figure the machine was built for a certain amount of stress and I wouldn't want to subject it to additional stress for no good reason.

Also, the wider tires might make it handle worse... all soupy and rubbery. Ick!

As long as you're not getting any rubbing, you should be fine. I've been running with 16x10.25" all around with 245/45-16 tires for 2-years now with no problems. That's with about 1 track session per month.

About 6-months ago, I got a set of 17x10.5/11.5" wheels and sticky A032R tires. Done about 4 track sessions with them and I've been monitoring my wheel bearings and spindle closely. So far, everything looks fine.

I'm sure track duty severely stresses the suspension way more than any kind of street driving (aside from huge potholes). If you keep the stress below the fatigue-limit of the steel parts, it should last forever. But aluminium on the other hand...

Andrew: I've got 7.5/17's front and 9.0/17 rears (looks like the same as you have now.... Cup 2 wheels off a 993), and I run 225's front and 255's rear.

Lot's of track talk at A-X and TT with 951 and 944 owners seem to indicate that 245 front and 255 rears are about as wide as you can go without mods on the fenders (like fender-rolling, etc). One 951 owner tried 255 fronts and it rubbed during hard corning at A-X. He rolled the fenders (baseball bat style) and the rub went away.

All said and done, if the shoe (tire) fits, wear it. Remember excesive heat on the brakes with more rubber, and watch for sidewall to curb kissing when parking.

Personally, I found my 944 N/A runs faster and smoother on the track with 225's on 15" wheels. I get better roll-out dynamics for sprint runs, and the same-size all-round gives me perfect traction balance for 4-wheel drift throttle steering. The cup 2's I use are for looks, and a slightly "stickier" feel in the rear when getting on the freeways in SoCal (damned decreasing radius turns). <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

I bought some 996 Turbo wheels this winter and i have yet to put them on yet. I am waiting until all of the snow clears up. The wheel sizes are 18x8.5 in front and 18x10 in the rear.

Are they going to fit alright on my 944 or do i need to do something to make them fit better?
