The f40 was just a BEAST. The f50 on the other hand was aimed toward giving the driver a Formula one car feel on the road. After piloting Several F50's (on Project Gotham Racing
), I'm not disappointed with any aspect of the car.

In the "Ferrari: Victory by Design" documentary on Speedvision, they seemed to say that the Ferrari F50 was used as a homologation car. They said that largely because of Gianpiero Moretti, founder of MOMO, they created a 333SP racecar and were able to use the "production" engine from the Ferrari F50. Supposively the F50 mill is similar to Ferrari's 3.5 liter F1 engine. The IMSA rules for WSC either didn't allow or did not favor turbocharged engines. The 333SP was the car to have till small restrictors were mandated a couple years ago.
A car built for homologation to a certain set of rules may have less performance than a vehicle without such constraints. Kind of like how Honda's CBR954RR will blow the doors off of their world superbike homologation model RC51.

[quote]I'm not comparing your porsche to a civic, of course, but the idea is the same. The Ferrari owners I've known don't have anything to prove. The car speaks for itself. <hr></blockquote>
Thanks for not comparing my car to a Civic. Phew, that was a close one. Actually, I don't think the idea is the same at all. I think the differences in pedigree between a Porsche and a Ferrari aren't really comparable to the differences between a Honda Civic and a Ferrari. The guy in the Modena was actually the one to initiate our little highway skirmish, so I guess according to your analogy he was actually the one trying to prove something. I absolutely love the Modena, and I agree that the car speaks volumes for itself.
Remember the Porsche ad for the '89 951 stated that "For lunch it prefers Ferraris, although it has been known to snack on Corvettes". It just feels good to know that relatively inexpensive modifications allow us to move up the food chain - rather than dusting 348's, we can tangle with modern Ferraris.

Here is my Ferrari rule:
When you see a Ferrari look casually and pretend as if you have 10 in the stable at home. Don't give them the satisfaction.
That said, my favorite Ferrari is the old 250 Testarossa. I also love the new 360.

This is my favorite Ferrari of all-time. I know it is not a production version. But damn, you gotta admire a modern twin-turbo V-12.

Perv, yeah that is a killer looking car, but I honestly think the stock 550 Maranello is much more graceful/beautiful. Oh yeah, really like the "turbo" script on the rear (wink wink) it reminds me of the script on the back of turbo Porsches (again, wink wink)
. Often immitated never duplicated.

Long live the F40 (well I prefer the 288 GTO, but the F40 is a close 2nd, I know the 288 it slower, but it is just so damn beautiful).
Anyway between the f40 and f50, I would take the f40 any day of the week.
You have to love the spartan CF interior.

And how about an F40 with magnesium wheels done in black...

Or how about in Yellow in LeMans Trim

Didn't mean to start a Ferrari/Porsche debate or F40/F50 debate. But..........
the TechArt 996 TT that I saw was hands down so much better looking than the F50. It looked so Teutonic and purposeful where the F50 looks kind of like a overpriced Fiero (note I'm not talking about performance just looks and it's all IMHO).
Ofcourse it may have something to do with this particular F50 always being completely filthy. I mean this guy never washes the thing. So sad.
What other cars have you guys seen?
Me: Master P's got a Green Bentley with 22" chrome rims and several other cars running around town. ***** Roaf has several AMG's. There are several Diablo's (roadsters, SV's etc.) and I've seen at least 3 25th anniv. Countach's. I've also seen a RUF Yellow Bird. Not to mention that guy from the other board that has a V8 powered 911 or several modded Vipers (ACR, Hennessey) or the sometimes seen purple Calloway C5. There is even a Aston Martin Vantage near the lake (beutiful car).

I read an article about a guy who supposedly imported the first F50 into the states in yellow- he lived in Texas (if I remember correctly) and got it in yellow b/c the particular yellow that they were using was the signature color in the city where they make them- is it Maranello, or some other "M" city? Not sure, but I remember the color thing

well I prefer the 288 GTO
Here's a photo I took of Wes's 288GTO at the <a href="http://www.sbconcours.com" target="_blank">Santa Barbara Concours d'Elegance</a> a couple of years ago. The thing sounds like a GroupB rally car of that era (awesome!):
