Post Car stalls with A/C on!!!

This is driving me crazy. When I am driving down the road, the car runs great, with or without the A/C on. But, if I have the A/C running and I come to a stop light and stop, the car stalls. When I pushing the clutch as I am coming to a stop, I watch the tach needle drop all the way till the car stalls. Sometimes the car tries to catch itself, the needle bounces back up, but eventual falls.

The car is an '87 944S. Without the A/C, the car idles fine, around 1k when cold, around 8-900 when warm. The problem seems to be related to the idle with the A/C on.

Any thoughts? On my '87 944, I was able to adjust the idle, but it seems the S models do not allow this?

Thanks.

David

Sounds like the idle controller, it is under the intake. You might want to test it first because it is a pain to replace.

A agree. If you test it, and it does not work right, a shot of WD40 into the valve can bring it back to life. If that does not work, replacement is needed.

Remove the vaccuum hose that connects the Idle Speed Regulator to the throttle body rubber boot and spray throttle body cleaner into it while the engine is running. This cleans the valve out and gets it working properly.

Thanks, I'll give it a try tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out.
