I bought the clock repair kit from Mark and have been trying to get this sorted using the instructions today.

I have followed the instructions and now have a clock assembled back into the frame.

Is it right that the actual LCD face can be touched when installed in the dash? Or should there be a plastic screen in front of the LCD?

When i plug the clock module back into the dash connector, should the LED come on or should it only come on with the dash light?

Please help - i need to get this sorted today !!!

 

I just installed one and didn't put a plastic screen or anything protecting the face from the dash. Looks good and works great.

The LED should not come on under normal daytime driving, just when you turn on the dash lights. It's easy to read when its daytime.

 

I get nothing, i must be doing something wrong.....

Any other ideas?

 

Ive opted to keep the original bulb instead of the LED, will this stop the clock from working?

It seems that the bulb is always on no matter which way around i put it?

 

I'd say this... first, relax... rushing this is only going to cause frustration and possibly a broken LCD.

You are going to want to check your alignment on the conductor pieces.

 

Hummmm - clock fuse?

 

Using a multi meter, i have checked the pin out of the connector powering the clock.
On the bench using a power supply, the clock works fine.

It seems that there is no voltage at the connector with the exception of the two bulb pins.

Any ideas?

 

The rubber conducting strips needed a bit of tweaking on mine to get it working... I'd give that try. It seems pretty random whether they line up properly or not.

 

You sure you have the connector going on the clock correctly?

 

The factory clock powers the light at all times. It is bright normally, and then it goes dim with the dash lights on.

 

On my 87 944s the light only comes on with the headlights, I just repaired my with the replacement LCD and bulb kit, that's the only reason I noticed. You can see my clock perfectly during the day,even when the car is off the clock is displayed, but the bulb only turns on with the lights.

To the OP, if your clock works on the bench then your problem is not with the clock.You may have a wiring concern, or maybe a blown fuse?Does your cigar lighter work?

Ok will try - But Clarks garage mentions that the cigar lighter and the interior lights operate on the same fuse.....?

 

A guy on here in another thread stated that he shorted his cig ligher, blew the fuse , and his clock wouldn't work, so it's worth a look.

Thanks Dave, You are right - 15A fuse for interior lights and cigar lighter failed. Going to get another now !!

 

Sorted this out this evening. You have to be careful when putting the dash panel back in as if the cigar lighter touches the body of the car, the 15A fuse blows. Best to disconnect the battery or take out Fuse number 11.

Clock is repaired and looks fantastic. I put a thin piece of clear vynil in front of the LCD module to stop it getting dirty.
