Default Help! OPRV piston stuck in block

So the car, a 1985.5 944, was sitting for 6 months, and previously, when I attempted to start it, after replacing the oil cooler housing with a 951 model, it leaked fluid everywhere, and then I slacked off. It sat for 6 months, and now I can't get the piston out of the block. Did my laziness just cost me an engine? How can I get the piston out of the block? Can I start the engine and hope that it will pop it out? There was a sleeve sticking out about a half inch, I removed that with pliers hoping that afterward, it would come out, but it did not. Here is the sleeve I have removed. Please help!
