Post VR6/G60 into 924/944?

Anyone think this could be done? Anyone know of anyone that might have done it? I'm also interested in the posibility of a 968 turbo into a lightend 924. Anyone know anything about this swap?

i think you would have trouble putting the 968 turbo into a 924, i dont think youd be able to fit the intercooler...man you expecting to win the lotto anytime soon?

Might as well go all the way and dump a 928GTS twin-turbo motor into a 924 then!

A FWD engine in an RWD vehicle? No.

How about a 2JZ-GTE (Supra twin turbo engine)?

I think it would be cool to have a VR6 powered 951- especially if it were an optimized 3.1L (or larger) VR6, and even MORE so if it were a turbo charged 3.1L (or larger) VR6- EIP has been doing some AMAZING things w/those motors. Several people have made AWD VR6's and 16v's, and I even read an article a long time ago about someone doing a 16V and making it RWD I'm pretty sure. I also like the idea of installing a 1.8L Audi motor in a '93 or '94 Corrado- I didn't like the interior of the G60 and the '92 VR6 Corrados as much.

I had a friend who went through 3 VR6 Corrados and a VR6 Jetta over the course of a few years. The Jetta was the fastest in a straight line despite it's taller gearing, an extra ~50lbs, and 6 fewer ponies. It was amazing- we had it up to ~149 one night- we were SOOOO close to 150, but it just wouldn't do it. It just had Neuspeed chips and a cone filter- it would probably give my Turbo S a run for it's $$$, actually. His Corrados all had bored TB's in addition to the chips and filter, and all 4 of the cars had complete suspension makeovers and 16" rims. Why was the Jetta faster despite taller gearing, slight extra weight, and HP deficit? Well, it must have just come off the line a little stronger or something- out of 20 or so cars of the EXACT SAME type (even identical options), you will have one or two that are faster than the others, three or four that are slower, and the rest will all fall somewhere in the middle- it just happens that way, unfortunately- unless you're the one who ends up w/the faster one

I would like to find a way to get the weights of some of these engines, so I could dream up the perfect combination. All of them could be serious contenders for enough $$$- G60, VR6, 1.8L Audi, RX7TT, and even the Audi 2.7LTT & Supra TT, although I'd say those would be heavier. I'd also like to see how they stack up against 968 and 951 engines weight-wise- I'd want to know how much they weigh completely assembled including stock forced induction to eliminate any variables.

I'm also wondering when someone's going to throw a 1.8L Audi engine into a Corrado(?). I think that would be cool. EIP has supposedly broken into the 700 - 800HP range w/these cars and is converting them to AWD. I think they've broken into the high 9's or VERY close. I ended up getting a 951 over the VR6 Corrado b/c I thought it would be too expensive to get the same kind of HP out of the VR6, but w/what I've spent to keep my 951 going, I could ALMOST have a bored & stroked VR6 (3.4 - 3.5L)- I read in EC where Christian Abt is supposed to be running around in a 3.6L Jetta- not sure if it's true. VW's talking about the new 24v VR6 and bragging that it might hit 210HP(!?). Big deal- the Euro VR6 was 2.9L and had over 190HP- 10yrs ago! I wish I could win the lottery- I'd NEVER be able to stop building cool project cars...

Enough dreaming and rambling for now... <img src="graemlins/sleep.gif" border="0" alt="[sleep]" />

Hi eurospeed951,

Actually you can put almost any engine in any car with enough effort, money, and time. I remember a car I saw in Hot Rod magazine; a 1984 Ford EXP (an Escort) with a BB/stroked 454, and it was converted to rear wheel drive. If that can be done, anything can be done

Cool

The G60 is a supercharged 1.8 I've been planning and modeling a fitment of the G-lader used in the Corrado for my 944 but since I'm selling my 944 that project goes to the wayside...

As far as FWD engines being mated to RWD drivetrains, sure it can be done. That's how they're getting the Lotus Elise here- they're using Type R Integra engines and the car is staying a RWD, so it's definately possible- like Abdul said- if you've got the money....

I remember seeing a 1960's - 70's picture of a Jensen Intercepter 'adjusted' to accomodate a Spitfire engine - Supermarine NOT Triumph I hasten to add. The guy is probably still trying to stop.
