VR6 is a sweet motor indeed. What a blast that engine would've been in my old A2 GTI. My dream VW, unlimited $$$ would be A2 GTI, VR6, and euro Golf Syncro 4WD drivetrain.

Had a friend that taught body repair at Baton Rouge Vo-tech school.
As a project they crammed a 454cid chevy big block into an 80's Celica.
Took it to the local dragstrip, the driver, a student got out of the throttle at about 200 feet, so we thought WTF, something must have broken..
He comes back towards us after coasting to the exit road with only 1 wheel in front and 1 in the rear touching the ground.
The engines torque had twisted the chassis so bad you could rock the car from side to side.....

Why not? There are engines that have been used in both applications by their manufacturer, and most engines don't care how they are mounted (as long as the oil pick-up is at the bottom.

I raced a G60 one night on an empty four-lane highway. He at least had exhaust modifications (and probably some stickers, heh..) He really, really pulled me until about 110 (2 car lengths or so..) when I gained back ground and we were almost dead even until 130 when we hit hills outside of Bloomington (IN.) This was the fastest I had ever gone in a car - and it was in the '83! Woo hoo hoo!
Anyway, I KNOW think that an everyday G60 (and suspect that a VR6) would not be a better performer than a 951... especially not a "proper" one
Supercharge the NA. Problem solved.

Please step awy from the G60 motors, these are not motors known for their longevity, they are high stress and the supercharger as well as the motors have to be rebuilt often.
But the VR6 is another story, I love it and think is is a great motor, but making it work in our cars would be very hard. I think you would be better off mounting it midship that mounting it in the front. A mid engined 3.1L Turbed VR6 would
be quite a bit of fun and win on a scale of orginality.
