Dunno if this applies, but I had a bit similar thing going on in mine - except that it eventually started, just took quite a lot of cranking.
The problem was leaking fuel injectors (3 out of 4), which were then serviced at a local Bosch shop. No problems with hot starts ever since.
Chances are that they're at least contributing to the problem you're experiencing, so maybe it'd be worth the shot to have them cleaned up?

from the Haynes manual pg 19
"engine hard to start when hot
1. air filter clogged
2. fuel not reaching the fuel injection system
3. corroded batery connections, especially ground"
the most often cause that I hear about is a fuel system problem. usually its a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. not that the pump is bad, but rather a value in the pump has gone bad.
search all the old post, I'm sure someone has had this same problem. I just can't remmeber right now what the fix was.

Numbers 1 and 3 would be low on my list. Sounds like vapor lock, which is usually caused by dirty injectors. That's what caused it on mine. See the other recent post on getting them cleaned.

Bad fuel pressure regulator,Next time that it happens to you and you are home, try putting ice in a rag and put it over the FPR for 3-4 minutes and see if it works. If the car turns, than your fpr is bad and vapor lock is your problem.
Hope this helps

Don't forget to either check and replace the fuel pressure damper (looks like the FPR) if the FPR does not fix it. Also fuel filter is a definity possibility, and don't forget the $17 DME Relay and the virtually-free fuel puymp fuse. Check your grounds, and clean them.
