Post 3.1 liter at SD AUTOCROSS

Well, we had the car out this weekend at the San Diego Auto Cross, it was awsome, performance was great, infact we had a practice session that showed us only four seconds behind the Dieters 914 best time of the day. We are running stock 944 NA brakes, and hoosiers, 225 on front, 245 on rear.

The car was very fast, third in AR. It was a great day for us :-)

The motor was checked before the race, showed compression across the board at 290-294 psi. THe leak down was less than two percent. I tore into it again last night after pulling it off the trailer and parking it in the shop, compression evened out to 291-293 across the board with the same less than 2% leakdown. Not a drop of oil or water anywhere to be seen.

I will be getting a different grind on the cam. A little more overlap should be better and will help releive a little running compression. I thought I nailed it with the cam we have now, but I guess there is always room for improvement.

Right now, we need two batteries to start the damn thing. Maybe a high torque starter would help too :-)

We started the event with instructions to my driver to keep the revs under 4500 the first couple laps, we then upped ita bit to 5000, then later we were taching it out to 6300 for the rest of the day. The motor kept very cool, and never missed a beat. The thing sounds like a hemi :-)

Here is a link to a couple pictures from the event.

I was down there as well as doug944S2. The car looked pretty good, but what was up with that hideous muffler that was on it at the beginning of the day?

BTW those san diego people take their autoxing pretty seriously, doug had a spin in his car and still turned in a time equal to my fastest one.

Anyways there were like 120 cars there, so not all too much track time. If you want a lot of track time try the Orange County events at Irwindale speedway. One I went to had over an hour of actual time on the course.

Hi Chris,

LOL, THat muffler was there because we were all afriad the car would not pass the sound requirement. But after the first session, I jerked it, thinking many of the cars running were as loud as mine...so I decided to run the car on one muffler.

THats why Tim was short shifting going thru the timers, he didn't want to get the "warning". But, we did anyway.

All in all, great day, not to hot, no rain. Perfect huh?

Take Care!
