Thumbs up 944s2 for sale!

I am selling my beloved black 1989 944s2 5-spd.
I am in central california near san jose. I am asking $7300 bucks (good deal i think). It has 152k highway miles, excellent condition, clean title,2nd owner.

have all service records/books, oil changed every 3k miles, recent new timing belt, tune up, cam tensioner, brakes, tires, thermostat, exhaust, cat. converter, radiator. New clutch about 38k miles ago. Body is in good shape, original paint looks good. Only vices are that sunroof tilt doesnt work (elec motor works however) and stereo system is sorry.

email me at Jason1972@sbcglobal.net

FYI: SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY. PLEASE DONT EMAIL OR INQUIRE IF YOUR NOT SERIOUS ABOUT BUYING IT. DONT WANNA WASTE MY TIME OR YOURS.

Sounds like a good deal Jason. Too bad I'm not looking for another S2!

Why are you selling?

Black smoke, wouldn´t that be when running rich on fuel?

I think it's a fair deal. I've had it for sale for about a month now, and no one has looked at it. Lots of long distance calls (I think mostly from dealers) looking for a very good low-mileage car for cheap.

>very good color!

Yes, I really like the color and kind of wish my Cabrio was this color instead of "Is there a problem officer?" red.

>how much did it cost u to redo the heads?

One head. It was done by the dealer in Denver, and the previous owner never got me the service records, but the dealer is faxing them to me this AM (wow, great service!) A dealer might charge an arm and a leg to redo a 16v head, but a good independant shop should be capable of it for maybe $700. It really depends on why it needs to be rebuilt and how many parts need to be replaced.

>and u say no smoke, do many 944's smoke alot?

Any mistreated car with lots of miles will smoke, often on startup if the valve seals are worn out. I personally have not seen too many 944s belching smoke but I'm not around when they start them up first thing in the morning.

>mine never had that problem but i know my friends 944 smokes (black smoke) when he
>redlines it sometimes. I think hes also consumes oil. not sure.

Well, black smoke at WOT can just be a very rich mixture. Often the WOT mixture is set rich at the factory to control detonation and reduce heat. Also there might be some sensors out of whack on the car that are skewing the program rich.

I think I haven't found the right buyer for my car, someone who wants a 944 but would be disappointed by the performance of an NA. It would also be someone who wouldn't just prefer to buy a turbo and modify it. The S2 is a great driver in stock form and not too troublesome. If you skip the belt and tensioner pad maintenance, all bets are off but that stuff is really not a big deal. The motor is amazingly durable if the owner does his part, and coming as I am from a long line of V8's I really like the torque.

Joel,
What type of "keyless entry" system is installed in the car? I have a '91 S2 Cab and I really want to install keyless entry. Any info would be great. There is a lot of info available on 968.net but I really want a "code rolling" system and several of the guys over there have installed very simple "non code rolling" (which means easy to steal) keyless entry.

It's an Executive. I pulled out the central locking module and wired the keyless module to it quite easily with help from this forum. It's supposedly a rolling code system. It has a lot of programmable features you can turn on/off (auto locking, unlocking, length of lock pulse, starter disable, etc.)

I had to add some small relays to it, but that was quite easy. The key fob remotes are rather large but the buttons are nice and the remotes seem to be of high quality and have a decent range.

I need to put a system on the cabriolet, I miss it. It's tempting to pull the module out of the 89 and put it in the Cabrio, but I don't want to start down that road.

my understanding is that all 944s2 had susp/brake system from 1988 turbo s and 89 turbo's. it was from 1988 Autoweek article (may).
that is what they mentioned.

The 944S2 uses the normal 951 suspension and brakes, not the 951S parts.

I think the S2 front swaybar is the M030 part, even without the option. Both of mine have a 27.8mm bar (IIRC) and neither are M030. Weirdly, my 90 has 9 inch rear D90's which I understand were an option, but does not sport an option code for those wheels.
