Car update:
- Thief got in by breaking the driver's side lock assembly
- Started car by completely removing ignition module
- Took everything from inside: Stereo, Subwoofer, Speakers, V1, Maps, Sunglasses, Owner's Manual. He even found the hidden compartment in the trunk area and cleaned out my extra quarts of oil.
- Broke Gas Cap and locking mechanism
- Body seems to be in good condition as does the engine compartment
- Car is sitting at tow yard waiting to be taken to my mechanic in SoCal

Thanks for all the responses. It means a lot.

Unhappy

at least you got it back..! good to hear that.

hopefully you can get a new locking mechanism and use the old tumbler. either that or use the passengers side tumbler in the drivers side and put a different one on the right side.

i just hope you don't have to get new keys/locks all the way around because one of them is hosed. i broke a key in the ignition and a locksmith got it out it five minutes, told me to remove one of the door handle locks and use the id that's printed on the inside to make a new key. in any case, ****ing berkeley sucks that way, probably more oakland though. we're with you man..

Semi-related, anyone know if clutch locks are reall all that effective? I've got one on my car.

Most, if not all steering wheel locks can be overcome by sawing through the steering wheel.

The best anti-theft device costs about $3 and is a simple switch to cut power from ignition switch to the starter. Just don't mount it under the drivers side dash, put it somewhere unusual. This will stop everything but a rollback. Ofcourse a lo-jack is a good way to find it if they do use a rollback.

I have had alot of nice sports cars and always put in a switch. On 3 occasions my cars have been broken into and the ignition switch busted but they never got my car. One of these ****** got so pissed he couldn't steal my car that he busted the windshield and keyed the side of it but **** him, he didn't get it!
