I'm 6'2" I'm not sure I would be comfortable using this, it needs to raise higher IMO.

Sit on a stool

For normal height garages, your really don't have a choice of going higher. That's why I bought a scissors lift long before the MaxJax was available.

What is the ceiling height in your garage roughly? I am really starting to lean towards this lift myself. Thanks!!
About 108-110 inches. That's to the ceiling, it's lower under the garage door tracks. If I load my car butt forward I can raise the lift all the way and also open the garage door all the way. Saves me from upgrading the door to low profile tracks. Most of the time I load foward like in the pic, and just open the garage door part way. Wasn't a problem this winter when there was 2 feet of snow just outside.

And as far as height, as Lemming said "Sit on a Stool!" that's what I do. Beats being flat on a creeper or a foam pad.

2 post lifts are the way to go. If you have a 12' ceiling, get a full height one (used they can be found under $1500. For an 8' ceiling, this Maxjax looks perfect.

I do agree on checking your concrete thickness... most residential garages are 3" or less. I know my full-height lift needed 4 or 5" (I did 8-10" - because I'm ****).

It does raise the question: If you can't work under it standing up, and the next best position is on a rolling stool, then how does a lower-lift 2 post improve on a regular scissor? (I'm height limited in my garage and would probably go with a scissor. For now jackstands and a creeper will have to suffiice.)

Greg - my guess is accessability - with this lift you could easily get to the bellhousing, clutch, torque tube, tranny, etc... - with the scissors I've seen you have the crossbars and such that would get in the way under there...I'm pretty set on the MaxJax - as long as you do your due diligence to make sure your concrete can take the torque on the bolts, I wouldn't worry about it. If I go that route and get it installed, I'm going to leave my Ford Truck on it a foot off the ground for several days before I get my happy *** under there.

I agree with Choinga, the scissor jacks look tempting from portability perspective, BUT I've chosen not to go that route because the mechanism would completely in the way for any type of major undercar access (trans, clutch, torque tube, exhaust, etc.). The MaxJax is very appealing because the posts and lift arms would be well out of the way. The only thing I don't like about it is that the pneumatic lines they show in the video appear too short to me. I know I would end up tripping over them and splitting my head on the car or something

I just installed a two post low ceiling hoist. I live in Canada and the cheapest price for the MAXJAX lift in Canada was going to be more then what I paid for my two poster from US with duty and me picking it up after they shipped it to Whitby by Toronto. My ceiling at this time is 9' and the two colums are up in the ceiling about 1.5 inches at that lots of room under the Porsche even with a minivan good height to do brake and suspension work . I'm 6'5" . I will be raising the height in the garage as soon as I stop driving the car and get some time. The lift I got is from Metro lifts ebay. Works very well, I'm happy and with the MaxJax lift it only goes so high so for about the same price go wtih low rise two post goes much higher. You need 4" concrete min 3000psi. Go with the two post you won't be sorry . Good luck and do let us know how you make out.

For what's it worth, those who are considering a MaxJax can now get them at Costco for $1899 and that includes shipping.
