Default Car stalled....got towed

On my way to work this morning, the engine just quit. Would not re-fire.
Called for a tow.
Got the car home.
It started. Ran fine for about a minute or two, then it stumbles, badly, to the point of stalling. Can keep it running with throttle. Then will idle fine, then stumble again....

Thoughts??

Funny (or not) how you mentioned the other day it is a 24 year old car and will likely need a tow again.. these things know what you think!

How did it smell when it was running? Did it seem like it was starving for fuel etc?

DME relay?
Speed and reference sensors?

When you turn the ignition key without starting the car, can you hear the fuel pump running behind the right rear wheel? How noisy is it? A good buzz is normal, but anything more is not.

Speed and ref look OK.
DME relay --- will check.

Good ideas.
Smelled OK....just stumbles really bad to the point of stalling, but then can run fine.
Died coming off throttle on an exit ramp.

Also, try unplugging and replugging the airflow meter. Sometimes that works wonders!

If I had to guess, it is starving for air.
Just a guess. But that's what it seems like. Throttle brings it back to life immediately, and it revs right up to redline without stumbling.

Right now, it idles normally. But will occasionally stumble. Then it will have a big stumble to the point of nearly stalling. Throttle brings it back.

That was my thought. Exactly. I even asked the recently repainted car, why now? Haven't I shown you enough love?

Definately put in a new DME Relay. Other thoughts would be 1) solder joints inside the DME, 2) AFM slide worn out or AFM electrical connector dirty (corroded), 3) fuel filter.

Let us know if you find it.

If the car is starting and running for a bit I doubt its the DME relay. I would put my bets on vacuum leak or airflow meter as said. Sounds like its running fine while in open loop (more fuel) and once it warms up its either not getting proper air readings, or not enough fuel (too much air from a leak).
I do believe I jinxed you but don't send me the bill.

I agree that it is probably not the DME relay.
I like the thoughts on AFM...the car probably sucked a ton of grit during the repainting process.
I also doubt it is a fuel problem.
You will get my bill.

joey toad, looking for the picture right now. Is it the pic with the red arrows? What should I check that is still connected?
This is interesting, as I vaguely remember accidentally knocking the cover off the AFM a few days ago. But I didn't check to see if anyting inside was disturbed.
