Thumbs up OT: a friend is even more a screw-up than I am, pics

So I got this suspicious phone call today to come over and see something that doesn't happen everyday. And quite right they were!

Ever wondered what happens to a medium-sized delivery truck when you're not quite concentrating on the driving part and try to go under a bridge that's a few feet too low? Behold:

<img src="http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/asujamaa/tapsa/ahdasta.jpg" alt=" - " />
A tight fit for sure...

<img src="http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/asujamaa/tapsa/hinuri.jpg" alt=" - " />
Enter the big-*** tow truck

<img src="http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/asujamaa/tapsa/laajakuva.jpg" alt=" - " />
Oooops...

<img src="http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/asujamaa/tapsa/laajakuva2.jpg" alt=" - " />
Good thing the weather was nice

<img src="http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/asujamaa/tapsa/saha.jpg" alt=" - " />
Needs some sawing to get that junk off...

<img src="http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/asujamaa/tapsa/tapsa.jpg" alt=" - " />
Our lucky winner!

See, I'm not the only one around here who wrecks cars... <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" /> Nobody got hurt, and we all agreed this was probably the funniest thing happened this year so far ..

So this means that the driving talent per capita in Finland is similar to other countries. The big difference, however, is that guys like Hakkinen, Raikonen, and various rally gods get allocated most of the talent, and the rest of the population ends up deficient.

That wasn't even close!

Reminds me of an incident in a low-rise apartment building I was living in. Some guys drove a a similar truck into the back lot amd crunched the box into a balcony.

On the way out, the same day, the guy hit the same balcony again! Now that was really stupid.

Dang, that's a neat junk pile! 30+ years ago I was home on leave, sitting in the waiting room at a local dealer's service dept, waiting to pick up my Dad's truck... heard a loud crunch and the whole building shook... guy had driven a flatbed low-boy trailer under a bridge beside the dealership... the driver's cage on the big Cat 'dozer he was carrying didn't clear by about 3"... rocked the dozer back onto the rear curves of the tracks, where it stayed, and _lifted_ the edge of the bridge off it's piers! He was probably doing about 45 when he hit. All eight tires on the rear of the trailer blew out. Took the two biggest mobile cranes in town to lift the bridge enough to drag the trailer & dozer out with two wreckers.... Awesome!!!

Now that I occasionally drive that 8'+ tall Roadtrek, I'm a _lot_ more conscious of low bridges, building overhangs, etc...

Jim, "If you loan a person $20, and never see that person again, it was probably a pretty good deal."

So they used a tow truck to wonk the vehicle out? Nice.

Maybe they should have just let some air out of the tires and driven it out.
