will the dash from a 87 be a direct swap in a 83 944?

No -- way too many things are different. It'll be easier and cheaper to swap the entire car.

It can (and has) been done. While this writeup is re: an early 924, the basics will be the same for your early '44.

Buy a new car unless you get the dash dirt cheap im talking under $300... no point sinking more money into a car just so it can look good when you wont get the resale value. Better off just buying the newer models.

I agree with ideola I think its better to restore/upgrade the car that you have. You will learn mutch about it and love it even more. People that just want a car cuz its a Porsche don't care about loving it for what it is... I love my car even if I could buy a turbo for all the cash I have spent so far !

Ideola he means the whole new dash not restore it haha... you would spend way too much converting it... Fab... its cosmetics not mechanical... just my .02

If you have all the parts and don't care about A/C, the swap is almost effortless. Mating the later style A/C setup to the car involves a bit of work. My project is on hold because of lack of funds and school... but i am collecting hot rod a/c bits to finish the job correctly.
