Post Anyone with advice on CV axles........OT not Porsche

Wife brought our 95 Altima to Nissan dealer today for tune-up. Dealer did the usual you need this and that routine, but one of the "needs" was the a CV axle replacment b/c the boot is cracked and he said it has leaked the grease. We haven't heard any clicking coming from the front end so do you have to replace the whole axle or can I just re-pack it and replace the boot. One costs $274 the other has to cost much less.

If you know how long it's been cracked then I would just repack and replace the boot. That is pretty expensive for the axle given that I found two new axles for 380 for my 951.
