Changing ignition wires--Simple, right...?
OK, got my nice 8mm blue ignition wires w/Beru connectors from Tom R (thanks dude). I am all excited to slap them on, but I can't even get the damned coil wire off the coil--the plastic cover is in the way!? And no matter what I do, it's not coming off so I can unplug the coil wire! Any tips on getting this simple task done without a major headache???
I just spent another $350 on servicing (oil change to Mobile 1, tranny fluid, timing belt re-tension, belly pan replacement)...not in the best of moods at this point!
Help?

The cap has a little button snap thing that snugs it around the wire-- you'll find it underneath. It forms a collar around the wire, and I suppose is meant to keep water and mice out. Unsnap it, then work it off of there with a gentle rocking motion.

I just switched over my wires and spent a few minutes trying to figure out how to get the cover off. It certainly felt like it was connected somewhere. I just kept applying more upward pressure and rocking it back and forth and it eventually came off.

OK...unsnap, rocking, then it comes off...
Sounds like a date I had!
D'oh!
Thanks...The cap/cover does feel like it's attatched. And it's really wedged in there too...not like it has much room to move anyway. Heading to the garage!
Wont even ask how to take off the fuel rain thingy to get the wires off!?

Ahhhhhhhh!! I just tore up my hand trying to get that fu#$ing plastic cover off! I finally pulled it out, cracked and a mess. Put my nice blue wires in.
Question is, that boot is NOT going back on to the coil. Is it needed?? Can I toss it and move on? Seems there is some rubberized hair-dryer shaped thing right next to the coil, and there is just not enough space to put back the coil cover...
What do I do now??

I'm glad you like the wires. I was surprised nobody jumped on them for over 2 months at half off!! I think Porsche didn't do anything unless they felt it needed to be there. I think it's mostly to keep water from splashing on it and to sort of hold the coil wire on. You could probably pick up one used for $5. Enjoy!
