Default Loud rattling noise from under the car...

I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose this problem. I was thinking it may be a bad flex plate.

The car is an 89' 944 n/a slushbox ( I know, I know)

Symptoms:
1. Very noticeable rattling noise from under the car. Noise is only present at idle and low RPMs.

2. A lot of vibration at idle and under acceleration.

3. When the problem started, I noticed three or four small pieces of loose rubber under the car.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

have you looked underneath the car yet to see if anything is out of place?

rubber damper on flywheel. (not to be confused with flex plate, which is attached to the torque converter.)

Update:

My mechanic says it's the flex plate. He estimated $1800 for the fix...........

Guess I'll park the car for a while

you could do a manual conversion for much less than that...
