Default Hatch Reseal...Fantastic Job $150 UNREAL

So I just had a fantastic experience with a service provider.

Apple Glass
Houston, TX
713-493-6505
Carlos is the MAN.

Hatch needed resealed and I called around, found a few shops and Apple told me they would do it for $150 which I thought seemed questionable due to the much higher prices elsewhere. They did say they had done many of our type pcar hatch repairs over the years. So, I drove the car over talked to Carlos and felt pretty good about leaving the car there for repair. So he gets the glass out and is afraid simply resealing it isn't going to work because the frame seemed to be very slightly warped at top.

So he calls me to tell me this as he has a couple of solutions and wants me to come by and make the decision myself. I go take a look. Of course, visually I can not see that the frame may or may not be warped. I am simply taking his word that a simple reseal isn't going to do the trick. This is logically because it didn't do this from the factory as the glass is simply too heavy for that tiny little frame.

He suggests sanding the top of the frame (nearest the hinges and top of the car) sealing the glass to the frame and then sealing a rubber piece (meant for a windshield) to the exposed frame and glass. I was concerned about the fit and finish at the area where this new rubber would meet the start of factory rubber that runs along the side of the hatch and continues to the spoiler.

Needless to say, as this is getting a bit long, IT LOOKS AWESOME!

I was concerned about it not looking factory as my 951 is as nice as any non-modded factory, non-concourse pcar. Quite honestly I think it looks WAY better than factory. Porsche got a lot right with these cars but Apple Glass killed them with the hatch seal! They also adjusted my hatch latch as it was sticking and didn't charge me for it. If all of my pcar service experiences were this good I'd be a happy man all the time. Good work Apple Glass, best 150 bucks I've spent in a while.

Just for fun I snapped a pic while she was "naked" couldn't wait to get it home for a much needed wash and polish.

So the hatch squeak is completely gone? My 924S squeaks and leaks. It may be worth a trip up from San Antonio sometime. How long did it take them to complete the job?

Maybe they could email the process to glass shops outside of their competitive area for a small cut of the action? Nevermind, just daydreaming...

Is this something that most glass shops are able to do competently?

This seems like the key step, and it's not clear to me what he did. Did he just re-seal the frame to the glass, then put the rubber seal on top?

I have had my hatch re-sealed once, and it still leaks (and squeaks), so I'm getting ready to have it done again. Mine is one of the ones with no wiper hole, and I like the look, so I would like to get it fixed right.
