Default Crank Pulley Bolt removal

My project is turning into a real big project. Got her all together and she started on the 4th try. WOOT!! A few minutes later huge cloud of white smoke out the back.

Well start taking her apart again and got to the crank pulley bolt and it will not break free at all. Anyone run into this and how did you end up getting it out without breaking it off in the crank.

I used penetrant and a 4+ foot breaker bar.
Good luck.

And a flywheel lock. You need a flywheel lock, and a 4' breaker bar.

I used a 5 foot pipe on a breaker bar to get the crank bolt out of the 968. The PO or their mechanic had it way too tight. Keep in mind that my breaker bar has a sticker right on it saying not to use a bar to lengthen it because it would break and hurt someone. So be very careful if you use a super long bar.

Flywheel lock and borrow an impact. Makes it much easier...

Going to give it a shot tomorrow. Took a few days off to work on her.

TY. If I can figure out this MAC, I will post up some pictures of it together before starting over again. Windows laptop died, so wife wanted a MAC... Kill more than the car is right now

flywheel lock, then use a breaker bar and put your floor jack handle as extension. works great

It's supposed to be 155 ft lbs - nearly twice as tight as a lug nut. Throw a little rust in there, and it's monstrously tight. Pull on it hard - it should come free.

How do you get an impact in there? Take off the fans? Seems like there would still be little room.

That's what I was thinking too. I've always used a breaker bar w/extension (and flywheel lock).

So.....I'm at the track for the first time today....Autocrossed my car a couple times and it ran great. Well first lap and boom. I guess my crank bolt came loose. (I've never touched it, I guess i should have).
So i lost my alternator, power steering etc...The crank pulley and bolt/washer, and steering pulley were gone.
They were kind enough to give me the parts and so i got the balance shaft pulley and power steering pulley back. The car will run but quite a bit of ticking. Maybe from the valves??? who knows. But the timing belt was in good shape and from what i can tell it didn't skip a tooth. When i cool down i will take a closer look. Anyway is this the first you guys have heard of this? Kinda bummed me out cause my first track event and figured it cost me $500 after hotel, gas......
