Post $175 a piece for these wheels...what you think?

<img src="http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~adrialk/Momo/Momo1.JPG" alt=" - " />

It's a 17x8.5 ET 56mm. Momo RS3 3 piece wheel. 23lbs a piece estimated by seller(is this an accurate estimate)?

So, $175 a piece + shipping? Cheap, about right, expensive?

TIA,
Adrial

EDIT:
Forgot to mention, they are used and will be for track use.

Those look pretty damn cool, and the price sounds good to me, but I have never seen those wheels before so I don't have a clue what they're worth.

Thumbs up

Price seems about right, the wheels are nice. Very similar to my Azev wheels without the rivets.

I recall that there was a wheel weight spreadsheet someone assembled - really comprehensive. Try a google search for it - or any Rennlisters have that list handy??

Thats a pretty heavy wheel, isn't it? A guy from St Louis on the email list, Menelaos Karmichelis has a similar set that he runs on his '87, you might try asking him.

I found this link for wheel weights:
<a href="http://www.wheelweights.net/" target="_blank">http://www.wheelweights.net/</a>

I found a few others but this was the best, no MOMO R3 however...

Thanks for the responses so far, I sent an email to the 924/944 e-mail list asking for Menelaos Karmichelis.

For that price, why not? They aren't really lightweight... but neither are those cup clones that a lot of people run.

Menelaos is a nice guy, and usually is pretty quick to respond, so I will bet you see something from him early tomorrow morning.

Weightwise, a 16" x 8" phone dial weighs about 17lbs, if memory serves me correctly, and I think the 993 17" wheels are around 19lbs. Just my opinion here, but I bet you will feel the extra weight, performance-wise. I put a set of VERY light 16" rims (12lbs each) on my '84 944 and it made a bigger difference in seat of the pants feel than chipping my 951 did. Two different animals, but it made a believer out of me as far as paying attention to wheel weight.

YMMV

Adrial:
One thing you have to consider with those wheels is that you may need to get a different set of lug nuts. All Porsche wheels have a 'rounded' lug nut: where the lug nut comes in contact with the wheel. Those Momo wheels may have such a rounded area, but they may not. If the lug nuts do not match up properly with the wheel, you can crack a wheel!
Example: at the Powertech shop, they have an aftermarket wheel mounted on the outside wall that is used to hold their garden hose. Apparently, a customer did the wrong thing.

Just be careful with non-oem wheels.

I guess you're getting rid of the anchors?

Also: I bought a set of 968 wheels and tires for $440.00 in March. (2 16x7's and 2 16x8's shod with Bridgstone Potenza RE7-somethin's). You should have attended the NNJR Swap meet at High Marques a couple of weeks ago! Someone here upgraded to 17's and got their 16's!

Bob Jr. at Powertech has a bunch of wheels still for sale, but I am not sure if it's the late offset type. And Stefania had a bunch of 993 wheels (17's and 18's) for sale as well.

Also: IIRC, Jim R. (again from Powertech) has the wheels you posted.

sh944, are you saying you felt the difference in acceleration or handling? If handling, was the car able to go faster around a specific turn, or did it just feel better?

Zoltan, I have a feeling they would've wanted too much $$ for wheels...I'd like to stay with 17" because I already have the tires to use on them.

993 cup wheels are 17x7 and 17x9 unless its the rarer 17x8 front.

I'm not sure how much lighter these will be than the boat anchors. They were 55lbs for a 17x9 255/40 and 50lbs for a 17x8 235/45. These wheels are 23-24lbs + ~25lbs for the tire. That's bringing me up real close to the weight of the current/wheel tire combo. (BBS moda)
