Question Saratoga Top?

Hello To all,

I would like to post a topic for information gathering purposes, so please be honest and let me know what your opinions are.

For those of you out there who own a 944 or like car that could use the Saratoga Glass top “Manual or automatic version”, how many people out there would be interested in a new in the box top? This is not to say that I have any “at this time” and I am not trying to say anything specific again “at this time”. This is just a fact-gathering question. Please post your reply and interest.

Depending on price, quality, tint, warranty, etc... yes, I'd be interested.

Jim, how's that for a "qualified yes"?

Thank you.

I'd like more info as well. FYI, there has been one for sale in the classifieds on 968.net for a while, at $650. I don't want it that bad . . .

Yes I have seen it. And I too feel that $650 is for someone that wants it much worse that I do.

How about this for those of you out there that read this string of posts.

"Hypothetically speaking of course".

How does this sound?
$400.00 New in box
Tint still to be determined. Possibly several colors available
One year limited warranty against product defects.

Yes, very interested, but quality and price are very big factors. Have to weigh the purchase against other "performance" enhancements.

Cheers,

Well the idea would be that the quality would be 100%, as the original Saratoga top or there would be no point in attempting this sort of thing. That is IMHO. However, I don’t think this would be a performance enhancement unless you think looking cool will improve your performance? “I’m kidding of course”

Question

I'm not exactly sure what the Saratoga top is, but if it's a glass sunroof that would be interchangeable with the factory roof, I'd be interested.

That sounds excellent. I've been yearning to tear the top off recently, but the weather hasn't been too accommodating. I find the extra light from above very refreshing.
Just did a quick web lookup on Saratoga and if the quality is superb, $400 might be reasonable.

Tabo, FWIW, I've never actually seen the original Saratoga, but I recall some debate about rattles, squeaks, & leaks, either here or on Usenet, or both. Some claimed that there were problems, some said they were fine. I guess my definition of "quality" in these ares would be "no worse than factory," if that makes sense. And I'd consider $400.00 to be a reasonable price.

Jim, looking forward to how this develops..

To be perfectly honest with out letting the cat out of the bag I suppose there will have to be some testing for the quality of such a product. If improvement were possible I would have to say that this is something that will be looked into very seriously. I have never own a Saratoga top myself I have only owned my 944 for 7 months, so I cannot attest to the rattles or leaking. My current Sunroof rattles right now but that is not saying much because I am sure it simply needs adjusting “Not to open a debate on that topic” however, there could be many reasons for rattling or leaking of a top like this other than the basic design of the top. Not to stray to far of the topic. Since this is an obvious concern of many looking into something like this I would say that this would be looked at closely and considered “if and or when a product like the Saratoga top would be released”.

Thanks for the reply

Okay,

I haven't even bought my 951 yet...In the next week though I plan to have closed the deal. But I am definitely in if all of the forementioned concerns were addressed.

I would be very interested so long as the top was thoroughly tested and warranteed. I did an extensive search for a new Saratoga top and actually spoke with the folks at Saratoga. They told me that a few years ago they had to rent a dumpster to THROW OUT over 100 944 tops that were just laying around! They had said that they had not received any requests for them until one appeared on Ebay last year.
