Post Another tire size question

i'm about to order a set of SO3's from tire rack for the 17" twist wheels i just got, but i'm undecided on what to get for the rear 17x9 rims, will a 245/40/17 be adecuate or do I need to set up to the 255. Keep in mind that these are not the lightest wheels and they are going on a NA car so I'm trying to keep the weight down as posible.

245/40 is wide enough to use on a 9" wheel if thats what you're thinking of. Thats what the back of a Turbo S comes with stock, a 245/45 on 16" wheel.

The tire will look narrow on the wheel, as it does on a Turbo S, but it will work great otherwise.

The diameter of a 245/40R17 is only .2" bigger than the 245/45R16 that comes on the 944 turbo S, so you should be fine in terms of speedo accuracy. If you want to be sure, match up tire diameter (info avail at tire rack) to your stock tire diameter.

255/40-17 is a factory Porsche size for 17x9 inch rear wheels. Either size you're considering will work fine. The weight different between these two sizes is negligible.

I running the same size wheels on my 86 951. I have the S03's in 255/40x17 on the rear and 225/45x17 up front. No clearance issues to date.
