Post Thermostat stuck closed I think?

I had my car apart for a while and finally got it back together then I was having trouble bleeding my coolant. I could hear the normal rush of water in the heater core and the temp would rise then fall as I step on the gas.

What I finally did was start with a cold engine ran the car and checked the bottom hose from the water pump to the radiator. It did not start to get warm for about 15 minutes then it seemed like it was just slowly transferring the heat from the water pump out. When I would squeeze the hose I could just about collapsed it all the way and hold it like that without feeling any pulsation.

Sorry so long but what do you think does my diagnoses sound correct? Also is the direction of water flow out through the thermostat to the radiator?
