Need help on exhaust stud removal, please
I have the studs out on the 1-4, and I have the 6 flange bolts out, but the 2-3 studs won't come out. Both headers are badly cracked and have to be removed. The 1-4 is cracked all around at the #4 flange (no longer connected), and the tube itself is cracked all around at the #1 bend. I can't tell the damage on the 2-3 yet but it is definitely cracked and leaking.
All the bolts and studs came out without much of a problem so far, but the 2-3 studs are stuck. Is there a way to remove the headers without removing the studs? So far I can't get the 1-4 out because of no clearance. I guess the 2-3 has to be out first. Is that the right order?
Thanks for the help. BTW, who has headers for a '86 951??

Yes, the 2/3 header must come out first. Put a good coat of PB Blast on the studs, go relax for a while, come back, double nut the studs, tighten the nuts in opposition, put wrench on and remove the studs. Be careful while removing. It is possible to break them. I urge that you also reinstall new studs from the dealer. They're not too expensive either, about $1 apiece. Get a good welding shop to weld the headers back up. Be sure to tell them that it is stainless. HTH
