Post Check your battery compartment drain

Just checked my battery compartment drain this weekend, and found it was plugged with leaves and crap where I couldn't see them. They collect in there over the years, and especially in the fall.

The drain is under the battery, and drains horizontally to the wheel well area. It's just a rectangular gap under a sheet of metal, doesn't really look like a drain.

I removed the battery and stuck a hose nozzle in there until I could hear the water spraying into the wheel well. My compartment is in good shape, with just a couple of small rust patches where the botom of the battery rests, but I know it's a problem area with these cars.

This is a VERY common problem, especially in areas where the leaves and pine needles fall. I make it a point to check all of the drains at least monthly and more at this time of year. At the battery you can also keep up with corrosion or rust in the pan.
