If so, do you have technical specs that I can use? I argued (friendly) with a friend last night on IM for hours about this. Are they the same or different? FYI, I say the 951 torque tube is stronger, he says it's the same.

And Jon, if you're reading this, Rennlist is the final say!!

Matt - don't know about "regular 951", but the 1988 TurboS and 1989+ Turbo's have a torque tube that is bigger @ 25.5mm (1" dia) - quote from "Original Porsche 924/944/968" by Peter Morgan pg 84.

So you are at least 50% right! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

I was under the impression that the tubes are the same except for the early ones not having the "crash ears" welded on by the tranny housing.

As for the quote about the dia, are you sure that they aren't refering to the driveshaft dia? Last tube I looked at (about 10min ago) was about 3.75" dia. Driveshaft is much smaller.

"Stronger" just means heavier, IMHO. Who when they build a 400 HP motor really worries about the torque tube breaking? Bearings maybe, but not actual tube shear. I think Huntley had the right idea in trying to produce a carbon fiber torque tube. I'd go with a lighter unit over a "stronger" unit. But, if it is in fact the same, well moot point then I suppose.

PET list the 951 torque tube as the same tube that came in all 1985.5-1989 944/944S/951 cars. The part number is 944.421.012.02. A different tube came in the 944 S2 (944.421.012.05). The 1982-85 cars came with pn 944.421.012.00.
