Post What should the steering FEEL like on a 1983 944?

This 83 we test drove was impossible to steer! It was so TOUGH to turn the wheel! Are these cars equipt with power steering?

Whats the deal here!!

Man, people are spoiled with power steering these days. Our '56 Ford doesn't have power ANYthing, and it weighs quite a lot more than any 944. Once you get used to it, it's really not that bad. Parallel parking is a bit of a workout, but only if you're not good at it

Heh heh... like that one...

Yep, time to do some 16oz curls...

Did you get it above 50? I'll tell ya, nothing feels more alive and connected with the road than these manual cars at speed... it's amazing... try it sometime...

Travis, which 944 was that? Do you think they disconnected the power steering, and are running without the pump? Hey, my 951 was without a pump for a while and it wasn't hard at all!

IIRC power steering was an option in 83.

Jeez, I'm not very strong at all and I don't have problems!

Look under the hood - if you don't see a ps pump, then there's no ps.

Actually, it should be relatively easy to steer. The strut bearings may need service.
