I know it makes a big difference if your tire pressure is not correct, meaning too low. Pump up the front tires to 40lbs, it will make it easier.

I didn't think it was an option. I love not having it though. I haven't driven a ps 944, but I know every other car feels like it has a pillow instead of a steering rack. What happens if you're driving with your knee and you hit a pothole with power steering .. the extra ease of the wheel could bone you. Crap, I think this is going to start a ps VS. non-ps thread.

Hey led, I'll let you parallel park my 83 in Old San Juan sometime and we'll see how you enjoy the workout <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Seriously, manual steering is cool but kind of a chore when it comes to parking. Not only because of the added effort, but because the car gives the impression of having a wider turning radius than it really has and you have a harder time maneuvering in smaller spaces.

PS in the 944 cars is "progressive," meaning that you don't really feel it until the turning effort increases, which makes it quite pleasant since there's no "pillow" effect at all.

I agree with Vaughan, however, that the manual rack gives a great connection with the road at normal driving speed. Especially in twisty roads.

With time, however, the universal joint in the manual rack ends up wearing and it does lose precision.
