Rebuild help
I recently bought my first porsche, and my first car, at the age of 16. This summer the car, a 85.5 944, has pretty much been my life... and a lot of trouble.
I bought it with a blown head gasket, so i popped off the head, only to find a broken ring and terrible scoring in cylinder 4.
So... I dropped the engine out of the car, and stripped it right down to the block. I knew that the block was aluminum, but I was told that there were steel sleeves in the cylinders. And I brought the block to a machine shop to have em bore all the cylinders .5 mm over. But, the cylinder wouldnt clean at .5 mm, so i asked them to sleeve all 4 cylinders for me. But the shop took 3 weeks to bore 1 hole and they said it was gonna be 2 more weeks to sleeve all 4 cylinders. And they were all ********. So i told them to forget about doing my job, and i'll bring the block somewhere else.
If you live in the central New York/Capital Region NEVER EVER bring any machine work to Haberecks Auto Diesel Machine!!! They are the biggest cobb artists in the business! <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />
Anyway, i broght it to another shop... and the guy told me it is nearly impossile to sleeve aluminum with aluminum.
So, to get to the point, I bought a lower half from Part Werks in Chicago. It is used and it was pretty cheap. What should I do with it?
Chang the bearings?
Or do a whole rebuild with rings and such?
...and the moral of the story is:
do not overheat your 944!
