Does the buyer know you are under pressure to sell? If he does, you will probably have to lower your price. If you want to sell fast, and you do, you almost always have to accept less.
$5500 is halfway between the two of you, and if I recall correctly is still $500 more than what you paid for it. That's not too bad at all, considering you drove it for how long?.
I doubt there are many people on this board who made a profit on their cars.

If he keeps mentioning KBB, get a hold of the latest market reports from Excellence, and show him what some similar cars (very far away!) are selling for. If he won't give up that point, then it's no use.

Don't forget that prices vary by region. I would have expected your current location to bring a higher price than most areas. Where in NY are you headed? In NYC $6500 is what you'd come down to (asking $7500-$8000), so factor that into the $2000 shipping cost and it will cost you nothing to bring it with you!

Are you sure it is going to cost $2000+ to ship? I looked into this once. If you are already filling a container to ship household goods, get a 40 footer and tie the car down in it. I don't think the marginal increase was $2 grand.
But one problem is I think you still need to use a US flagged ship from HI to mainland which is more expensive than a foreign flagged ship.

Put it this way for KBB prices. When buying my 944 it was my best bargaining tool. I would always say that I was offering "blue book value" and show them a custom printout from the website. KBB is not good if you are trying to sell a 944. The prices aren't just fair, they are considerably below what you would expect 944s to sell for. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe you could get a hold of a "Market Update" from a recent issue of Excellence magazine. They do these once a year, IIRC, and they list far more accurate prices for our cars. Anybody out there with a subscription? Scan the article in and send it to Pamela!

Thanks for your suggestions/replies. I have only had the car for 10 months, and yes the prospective owner does know that I need to sell within about six weeks. I am not the type of person who needs to make a profit from the car, but I don't want sell it for under $5k as I know that it is worth considerably more than this. I have been trying to find a copy/printout of the pages from the Excellence Magazine for reference, but have been unable to find anything on the internet at all. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on a copy?
We are a military family and I am already shipping our other car to NY as part of household goods *free* - the price to ship a car from HI to West Coast is $863, and I have been quoted anywhere from $1800 - $2400 to ship to East Coast. I believe I am going to make a stand and tell this guy that $5k is as low as I will go.

Tell the guy $5,500 and that you are going to be running lots of ads in newspapers if he isn't interested. $5 is too far too fast. He will think you are desperate, which you are not, yet.
