Default Starting/idling issues please help

Hi every one first off this is my first porsche (83 944) i have owned it for about 2 years and put about 250 miles on it only. ever since i have owned it it has idled rough for about a minute right after startup and then seemed to do fine. last fall it only started some of the time...usually only when it was warm. is this common for these? simple fix? oh btw i'm a diy-er i spent last winter replacing my water pump and that was...fun? anyway any input would be appreciated thanks in advance

Hi Dog, Welcome to the forum. If you replaced the water pump I hope you also replaced the Cam and Balance Belts. The rule of thumb on the Cam belt is 30K miles or three years for change out. The reason for this is that if the Cam Belt breaks you will have bent valves and a head job to do. Check out the link below for maintenance DIY. The start up stumble is a known factor on the 83. See the link below.

Hard to diagnose, but I would start by checking the fuel filter and O2 sensor. I would also check the afm. I have a bad gound somewhere in my car, and when it wasn't working, it would do exactly the same.

I was having a similar issue with my 83... I tried replacing a lot of things with limited success.
I dealt with a intermittent rough idle for 3 years, and last month, my clutch slave cylinder went bad. I decided to order a silicone vacuum hose kit along with the clutch slave cylinder. I replaced all of the vacuum lines under the hood (took about 30 minutes). I finally have a rock steady idle for the first time in 3 years. My feeling is that for a small investment, you can replace the aged and brittle 27 year old plastic vacuum lines in your car. The vacuum system can cause all kinds of strange running conditions as many of the items under your hood are vacuum controlled.

where did you get a whole kit? thanks for the suggestion, i have a feeling its something like that because last fall it would sometimes cut out driving. like it would turn off for a second then pop back to life then die the come back...it would go in little spurts...very frustrating
