This is my first post. Need info and /or pics for changing odometer gear.

there's a diy writeup on this. search for it. i think it was xsboost that wrote it.

Do not break the pin that supports the needle. Your speedometer is then not repairable.

The easiest way I found to get the needle off was to use a kitchen fork. Put some tape around the fork tines and cut a slot so the fork can slide under the needle and gently turn to the left and pry straight up.

@Banshee: Don't sweat it, time of day is a big factor as well.

@OP: Recommend Rennbay -- they will not break, and if they do, you get another one.

It is not hard to do, but just take your time and be patient, don't force it. If you're lucky, the old one is in pieces and just falls off.
