Fan Question
Ever since I had my fan switch replaced last fall the fans have been running much more than before. At first I attributed this to the fans finally working correctly. But now that warmer weather is here I am not so sure.
Both fans run almost continually when the engine is warm, both at idle and when under load. After I shut the car off, even in temperatures in the mid-60's after a drive across town, both fans run for 2-3 minutes before shut off. On a recent PCA saturday drive my fans were running after shut off and several other 944s fans were not - Is this normal?

Are you sure you installed an OEM fan switch? Sounds to me like normal operation for a Low Temp fan switch. I installed one last year and my fan did the same thing. I decided it would be fine to just go with the stock unit and put one of those in. It usually only stays on after I shut the motor down on the hottest days.
One way or another, if it's not draining your battery to the point where you need a jump, it's probably not a huge issue. On the other hand, when that fan is running it's robbing your engine of power (and we need all the power we can get), so maybe you should verify that it's not the low temp version...

Yes, there are two types of switch. With the low temperature version, which I had, the temperature gauge stuck on the bottom line; with the standard which I now have, the gauge often goes up to the midpoint of the two lines.
I run through the winter, and appreciate the extra heat from the standard switch, but if you regularly have overheating problems, like 951's often do, the low temperature switch is useful. I never had, and still don't have overheating problems, but being in the far north with an n/a, my experience may not apply to you.

Make sure you get the low temperature thermostat to go with the low temperature thermofan switch. Otherwise you get the symptoms described above (constant cycling.)
