Post Can't remove rear toe-in?

I took my car to a high quality tire place that claims to know Porsches - they do some work for a local Porsche shop. I wanted my rear set to -1.5 deg. camber and 1/32" total toe-in. It now has 5/32" toe-in and they claim they can't get it to go out anymore with that much camber. I've moved the toe setting myself and I don't seem to have a problem - and I don't really think the guy is doing it right. I'm probably not going to take it back to them to have them "fix it" but I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem. I regularly see people with more camber and around 0 toe without a problem.

So has anyone else had a problem getting close to 0 toe with more than stock camber?

Thanks.

1.5 is not that much camber. I find it hard to believe that you can't zero toe in with 1.5deg camber.

Maybe you should take the car back to the shop, and offer to show the guy how you did it. See if he finds fault in the way you did it, or if he's just ignorant of how to do it correctly.

Yeah - I'd want to know if they even have the correct tool for setting toe in the rear!

You should have no problem with this configuration. I run 2.5 deg neg camber, and 0.10" toe in. My car is also lowered, which can impact range of adjustability, but I doubt this is the case with your car.

The only other possibility would be a bent trailing arm - had that once. Look for deflection at the hub carrier. In my case there was no surprise or question about it being bent, since I was in the car when it was bent (by a wayward Fiero trying for a nonexistent inside line)...

I've pretty much convinced myself they don't know how to do the toe correctly - even though I did ask them if they use the "special tool". I just tweaked it a little again so it's pretty close to where I want it.

A related question - they claimed last year that they couldn't get anymore camber than 1.5 in the rear. This I believe because when I turn the eccentric it does seem to be at the max neg camber position. Is there a trick to getting more camber in the rear?

i had the same problem in lubbock but with only 1 degree of camber. im sure he was not using any special tools, because i watched the whole operation. he was also unable to find the caster adjustment for the front. i guess ill have to wait until i get to a real city to get it done right.

You've got to have the tool, sorry. Until you do, it's a joke, you never know what you'll end up w/.
