Default Are 924S spindles early or late offset?

I am looking for some late 87-89 Spindles and hubs for a late offset race car. A friend has some from an 88 924s. Are they late offset? Are they the same as the late 944?

924S is early offset. Plus, the drivers side is hollow for the speedometer cable. I would not advise putting a hollow spindle on a track car.

Thanks, I didn't k now they still used the old spindles on the 88 924S. BTW: My current Race car uses a spindle with the speedo cable hole and has run for at least 6 years that way. My problem is that i am building a late offset race car and have only early spindles and hubs lying around.

@johntorg
Here is a thread on 924board with detailed info on the various permutations of spindles and hubs: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?p=236428#236428

^ Good question, I'm inclined to say no. Porsche PET will reveal different part numbers.

I also run a hole spindle in my race car. I had one fail last year. I happend in practice on a warm up lap so no damage. I got lucky.

My advice is to check the spindle for cracks any time you change the front rotors. When I look at my spindle I could see it was cracked for a long time before it failed. In fact I has just complete a race the day before without issue. First lap out the pits the next morning it broke.

So when you change the rotors look for cracks. You many need to use a type of penetrant inspection.

Joe,

Thanks that's good advice. I will check the next time I replace the rotors. Where were the cracks located?

Don't risk it. I know a lot of people have used these on track cars, but with race-rubber and suspension upgrades...it's a lot of stress on the hollow spindle. Lives are at stake and there are parts houses full of solid spindles for cheap. No self respecting race car has a speedometer anyway.

Is there a solid spindle that mounts to the Konis used in the early offset 83-84 cars. I have an 85.5 944 Parts car which should have a solid spindle. Does anyone know if this will interchange directly?

Quick Reply: Are 924S spindles early or late offset?
