Angry My car died and now it won't start-Help!

Ok, so here's the story, me and a buddy went to go get a pizza. After we stopped at Domino's we went over to H-E-B to get some beverages. When we came back to the parking lot, I hopped into the car and started it like normal. I was about to put it into gear when the engine slowed and then died. I was like, ok I'll just re-start it, I cranked it, but it acted like it had no compression. I think the engine is turning over because the tach twitches and the starter motor doesn't just wind up like you think it would if it was free spinning. I just changed the timing belt and I was able to look at it through the little rubber plug on top of the cam gear housing. It looked intact and taught. Anybody have any ideas? Could it be the reference sensors, or mabye the starter isn't engaging all the way. Anyway thanks in advance for any feedback!

why do you way it acted like it had no compression? From idle that sounds like a timing belt slipping and bending valves. Do a compression check according to your description. Good luck.

I'm not sure, it just feels like the engine is turning but not resisting.

Check Spark and fuel. Then we can take it from there.

Ok, so what are the procedures for towing a 944 about 10 miles? I would MUCH rather work on this damned thing at home where I have tools.

Have it placed on a flatbed, don't have it towed with a boom. I would check all the timing marks and check the DME relay.

Work on it at home because frustration plays a big part on diagnosing problems. If engine has no resistence, you may have big problems. Check the timing belt/timing marks when you get it back. My cousin had a belt slip and bent 4 exhaust valves and had no compression at all. I hope this is not the case for you.

What about towing it with another vehicle? Is that a big no-no? I really don't have to go far and it's all country roads. Anyway thanks for the info.

yes that is a big no no. every thing is designed light. Not to pull the wieght of the car. The only thing I can think of would be the torsion bar tube in the rear. but it would rub on the half shafts. If you go the flat bed route (recomended) Make sure while they are putting it up on the bed the put some 2x4's at the foot of the ramp to keep from damaging the front valance.

Hmm, 10-miles on flat land? I say rent a tow-dolly from U-haul and pull it with a pick-up truck.

That's an awesome idea! I'm glad you thought of that, what should I do and not do when using a dolly to pull a 944?

I another post about towing, many of those who used a dolly put the car facing backwards, there is more clearance back there, less chance to damage the valence.

How do you lock the steering if you tow it backwards?

About the "no compression" you will KNOW if it is a case of no compression b/c the starter will just spin like crazy, it will not even sound like its cranking, it will just spin.

I know this b/c that is what happened to my Mitsu last month (16 valves now 4 bad ex 4 bad in).

Ok, then it's not that, because the starter does have a load on it, it just seems to me that there is not much. Maybe because it usually fires right up and I never get to hear it cranking for any length of time. Let's hope so.
