Question Ignition switch relocation?

Hey, I was wondering if anybody else has been as disappointed as I was that the ignition switch is on the right side of the steering column instead of the left? The headlight switch looks like it's in about the right spot, and occupies about the same space as the ignition switch...I was wondering if anybody has attemted to switch the switches around, so to speak. Any suggestions?? I think this would be a really sweet mod

Thanks guys!
Stephen

Well, here's a bit of trivia: anyone know why the ignition switch on MOST Porsches is on the left of the steering wheel?

This should be an easy one...

Yeah it's on the left because Porsche thought it would save a second or two in the old races where everybody runs across the track, gets in their cars and goes if it was on the left.

Hence being able use both hands to put the car in gear with one hand and crank it with the other at the same time. Yeah that was an easy one Z!

Dave's got it right, or at least that's the story I've heard too

A good reason to keep it in the right side in 944's is so you can release the hand brake at the same time you're cranking. Of course the car is already in gear, you just press the clutch in ... and voilá, off you go!

I can count on one hand the # of times I've actually used the parking brake in the 2 years I've had this car...But Florida is a very flat state for the most part so I don't do much parking on hills which would require it.

I use my parking brake all the time, but I also love weird quirky things like having the ignition on the left...

I think the only real problems you would have is either the switch being "keyed" somehow to only fit the right side hole (and the headlight switch the left side). Other possible problems would be related to the steering collumn lock.

Do the RHD cars have the key on the left or the right? If it's on the left (a mirror image) I would think you could get the RHD parts to do it real easy.
