No problem. May as well replace the inner rubber seal. Everything can be pried out and tapped back in with a wood block where required.
When you tighten up the lock nut start screwing it in and test the thrust washer for movement. Place a screwdriver blade on the edge of the washer and with hand pressure it should just slightly be able to be moved. Don't lever against the hub - just put blade against washer edge and see if you can push it around just a bit. I usually tighten up till you just can't move it and then back off ever so slightly.

Getting the old races out can be a little hard. Just be careful not to nick up the hub while removing them, and knock them in square when installing.
After a few hundred miles, you should re-adjust them.

Not too long after buying my car, I tried to replace the front wheel bearings and had the hardest time removing the bearing races, so I gave up. I saw bearing removal tools, but they were pricey. I was reading a bike catalog the other day and saw this tool which I think would be very helpful:
Just slide through the race, push the flared end up against the back of the race, and pound it a few times with a hammer. What do you guys think?
Costs about $27.99 from most bike catalogs...

That might work, but IIRC, there are only 2 areas that you can get a tool on. A standard 2 prong race remover tool from Autozone (free rental) would work great.
Pretty much the same thing as above with 2 prongs, and you bash it a few times with a hammer. A LITTLE heat from a propane torch would work too.
