Default climate control vacuum hose question

Would a few of you, with working climate control, run out and check the 2 vacuum hose ports on the firewall, just below the cam tower?

Right now, I have the top (passenger side) hose going to the heater/coolant valve, and the lower (drivers side) hose going to straight manifold vacuum.

I'm not sure if that's correct or not, and the vacuum routing sticker is no help for them.

Thanks a lot,

The lower port goes directly to the coolant valve. The upper one on mine goes into a T at the firewall, but I just ran out quickly and didn't know you needed to know where those went as well.

IIRC it is on or off, so it doesn't matter which way it is connected... hook it up and see if it works, if not reverse them... it really is that easy, and easy to reach on an N/A... not so easy on a Turbo, but still reachable...

Thanks Colin... mine are backwards.

I would normally do that John, but my temp control isn't working. I'm trying to diagnose it. The heater valve moves when I use the vacuum pump, but it doesn't move when I turn the temp ****. I don't know if its a vacuum leak, or my climate control unit is bad.

Could be the vacuum solenoid for the heater valve as well. There are two to the left of the glovebox. One controls the recirculation vents and the other is for the heater valve.

If I doubt it is a bad vacuum line, the valve default is OPEN not closed... with vacuum disconnected from the valve you should have heat. (try this FIRST)

IF no heat with vacuum disconnected, your heat control valve in the engine bay is toast... but at least that is an easy fix, and cheap one too!

If not the heater valve, or the control solenoid as Steve suggests, you have a bad control head, see if you can get a known good one for troubleshooting...

And if yours is bad try to see if Lart has one for a decent price, as 944online wants $625 +$200 core...

The default position for the heat is supposed to be ON, if all components fail the valve should be OPEN leaving the heat on full time... it is either your heat control valve, control head, or the solenoid, and I would recommend checking them in that order..

OK, here's the problem in full

All the direction doors work fine. Floor, defrost, vent.

The heat works fine as well, but the temp door doesn't work. When I want heat, I have to undo the rod on the mix door (The one with the clip that always breaks).

When I turn the temp ****, nothing moves, however the solenoids under the glove box make noise (the clicking sound). I don't know if they are replaceable, needs cleaned, or what.

Also, turning the temp **** does not change the position of the heater valve on the engine (Even when the vacuum hoses are in the correct places lol).

Thanks for the link 75ohm. I'm not sure if I need it yet.... but I might.
I've been wrestling with this problem since I bought the car. It never really has bothered me much, because I could get everything to work, just depending on how I worked it (manually lol). I put all of this at the bottom of my "to fix" list.

I cannot believe it, but I've gotten to the bottom of the list!!!! (how many 944 owners can say that!!!! LMAO)

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of lol.

is there any way to test them? I don't want to drop the cash on one, and have that not be the problem.

Either find a known good one, or put yours in a known working car...
