Has anyone removed their cat converter after an inspection and experienced any additional horsepower without electrical or mechanical problems... ive been thinking about doing it

Umm, I don't know the answer to your question..however, I just had my catalytic converter replaced and now I have low voltage readings(haven't found the cause yet). I'm not sure if they're related, but I'm wondering if welding my cat on while the battery was still hooked up could have caused this problem.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS pull the leads off the battery while welding.
A bad voltage regulator or battery could be an issue on the low volt problem. Regulators are fairly cheap, but an Optima Gel Cell will drop you back a few hundo by the time you are done.
Steven (I presume) - taking out the converter will give you a few more top end horsepower, and you will loose a few lb/ft of torque in the bottom end. It is not a bad mod for power, some notice a gain. You car will be a bit more noisy, however, and you will pollute more. A high flow cat is the best way to go. Excellent air flow, reduced noise, and you will keep the air clean.

Yes, I know some shops that knock out the middle with a broom handle when the cats start to get old anyway.
Bad for environment but cheap. I like Perry's Hi-Flow idea better.
