Post The holy grail... I have found it!

yes you heard me right, I have found what all of us desire and strive for with our cars. I too had a cracked dash and I tried many ways of fixing it but to no avail. Due to the fact my car is now in the shop getting fixed (from that deer bouncing off of my car) I needed a new fender. I found a place near pittsburgh that had a fender and I went and checked it out. the car it was from was in a fire, mild enough that the dash was perfect on the top.( glovebox is melted and some other bottom parts but I will switch it out with mine.) the best part was the price get this:

$65.00 !!!!!
the dash is still soft to the touch! I am so excited I payed for it on tuesday and they removed it for me and had it cleaned up for me yesterday. I was so excited to post but I waited until it was safe in my garage. Pics in the following week. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

My quest for a similar OEM brown dash continues...

Why do these dashes go bad. Mine is as soft as a babys butt and no cracks. The biggest crack in my car is the one plowed into the drivers seat.

I asked the same question to a friend of mine that specializes in auto-detailing, and he told me that the cracks are a result of the type of vinyl used combined with the Armor-all dash protectant that everyone used liberally in the 80's and 90's (of course, combined with prolonged sun exposure on it as well.....)

Makes sense to me, even if it's not 100% scientific fact.

Where is the junkyard around here with 944 parts at reasonable prices? I am about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh . Everytime I have tried around here they either don't have any 944's or want some ridiculous price for parts.

70 bucks and your car and you have a deal! .....the dash is under guard..do not attempt to steal it or suffer the same fate as the fawn that started this whole search for parts.
