Default is it necessary to replace the rollers when changing the timing belts?

I have an '87 944S with 68K miles on the motor. The belts and rollers were replaced about 5 years ago. They only have about 1,000 miles on them. I think the belts should be replaced again since it has sat for so long(dry rot) but do the rollers need to be replaced? I am replacing the cam chain tensioner pad since the chain is new.
thanks

You should replace the rollers every other belt change. Unless they are oil soaked, I don't think you will have a problem with doing just the belts this time.

Hi Dillon, Change out just the belts as mentioned above, but be sure to check each roller for any movement other than normal. When was the water pump last changed? If it is the original pump I think I would change it out for a new pump and be worry free for another 60K miles.

If the belts sat for 5 years, I would just for piece of mind. On the rollers, if you don't know the history, you can spin them by hand and decide based on condition if you should replace them. If they are really loose and spin very free, that is an indicator that they may need to be replaced soon.

Wait, really?

I thought the rollers were supposed to spin forever if you spin one, not the opposite, Lol, if so then my rollers were really shot!

One was even dirty, and wouldn't spin freely, so I WD-40'd it untill it did...

Do I need to change my rollers, now?

All depends on how they feel, and I can't feel them. New ones won't spin forever.

how much for new rollers ?? there's this old sayang... "you're already down thar."

look, over the next 60-80 k miles you're gonna replace a whole bunch of of other shat on this car.

what's the diff. keep the rollers. when the shat statters you'll have an extra parts car.
