Post exhaust sensor

what does the sensor at the front of the exhaust do. The one thats just after the y pipe. It has been unplugged sice i have owned the car.

I believe that would be the oxygen sensor.

When the Oxygen sensor is unplugged, the DME will force the engine to run rich.
