Default 944 valve cover removal

I'm planning on removing the valve cover on my 86 944 n/a in order to replace the gasket that is leaking oil. I've read about it being a tedious job and I was wondering if anybody has any tips from previous experiences? Thanks

Its not a "valve cover" its a Cambox, and it wasn't to bad to do IMO, you have to pull the timing belt off to do it however so you will need to retension it. Is 86 a spring tensioner? if so get the balance shaft tool, as the pins fit the spring tensioner and make it super easy to retract.

Put the motor to TDC before you do pull the belt also.

Hello dkhan, It is not so tedious, but just take your time removing the bolts. Sometimes the bolts seem stuck. If I run into that I try to tighten just a little and then back the bolts out. Make sure you use good tools and not strip the bolt heads. You have to be careful when removing the cover not to have the lifters fall out. I slide a narrow piece of sheet metal the length of the cam cover to keep them in place. The hardest part is cleaning the old gasket off the cover and head. You do not want to nick the surface area. I hope you bought the rear cam cover gasket as well and use lock washers on those bolts. A good place for help is the link below.

Have rags covering the headers so that they don't get all oily.
